MMCI Student, CPM Trainee
"I am a third year student of the Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) program at Midwest Maternal Child Institute (MMCI). I am a Perinatal Educator and Birth Doula (through MMCI), certified Birth Doula(CD/DONA) through DONA International, and Natural Childbirth Educator trained by International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA). I also practice Reiki, worked as a team leader in a successful health company and am building a team with a rising company that offers high performing personal care and household products that are safe and beautifully designed.
I became interested in maternal and child health after witnessing a friend's traumatic birth experience. I thought that there had to be another way; after all, our bodies are meant to birth the babies we grow. I proceeded to spend the summer of 2011 researching birth cross-culturally through an anthropological lens in an independent study at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
I designed my undergraduate degree, naming it 'Cross-Cultural Health', which focused on birth around the world. After this amazing research, I decided to continue my education and career in midwifery.
I began training as a birth doula and childbirth educator in 2012; after two years as a practicing doula I found a midwifery education program that fit my ideals and proceeded with midwifery studies. I will complete my didactic training in 2017 and am continuing with clinical training at "Oak Grove Midwifery" of Green Bay and "In the Beginning" of Iola and Bonduel.
I am passionate about healthy pregnancy and birthing! With the help of my husband, midwives and doula I was blessed with the all-natural, hospital birth of our 9 pound 3 ounce daughter ('Eowyn) in November 2012, and the home birth of our 8 pound 12 ounce daughter (Tauriel) in July 2015.
I look forward to continuing developing my art of midwifery, bringing everything learned to our community in Green Bay and surrounding areas so holistic care is available to more families."
